Sarfaraz unsure about opening against Karachi after poor performance

In the opening match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, Quetta Gladiators suffered a serious derail from Karachi Kings. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed feels Quetta is going to have to reconsider its plan during the coming matches.

Quetta struggled with their batting order as Sarfaraz Ahmed advanced himself to open the entrances along with Tom Banton, moving Chris Gayle one after another. Sarfaraz only managed to produce seven results, and Quetta never got back from the poor beginning. The experiment was miserably failing.

For 121, Quetta was grouped as Karachi quickly followed the target. Sarfaraz said he is going to sit with Quetta's management to fix the problems. He said he was unclear that because of the fragile middle order of the squad he was going to open the battle for Quetta in the next matches.

While I opened today, I will reevaluate when the team wants me to battle in future matches. Our middle classes have also failed today so that I will sit with the management to work out a plan for next matches," said Sarfaraz.

He claimed that Quetta's batting had enough of firepower in the coming matches to place major sizes on the board and that he couldn't rebound from precarious beginnings and miscalculated the first match.

Experts also challenged Quetta's decision to not open the bowl with Mohammad Nawaz, a left-arm spinner. Sarfaraz said the crew tried to attack the opposition batsmen with fast battlefield bowlers after not putting enough runs on board. He said that if there are enough defensive runs, the bowling system would do much better.

The second match of Quetta will be played against Lahore Qalandars on Monday, 22 February.
