HEC announces its decision on Universities in High-Risk areas

The Federal Commission of Higher Education (HEC) has clarification that, following the decision of the federal government to expand the closing of educational institutions in the hotspot areas of COVID-19, all universities must remain within the guidelines given earlier except for universities situated in high-risk areas.

The Commission stated in a statement that the high-risk institutes referred to by provincial governments remain close to the physical presence of the institution by 11 April 2021. The academic sessions will however continue online.

The HEC also reported the possibility of ongoing and expected testing online with strict adherence to the health and safety protocols of COVID-19.

In order to ensure strict observance of COVID-19 health and security protocols such as thermal screening, wearing a facemask, social distancing, availability, and use of sanitizing wipes, as well as disinfection of buildings, universities where the university activities are underway were based.

Varsities were also advised to call or email mgbhatti@hec.gov.pk for further guidance on request to the Chair or provincial-regional members of the COVID-19 Supervisory Committee.

It can be recalled that on Wednesday the federal government announced in Punjab, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Malakand, Swat, Lower Dir, Nowshera, Buner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and all academic schools in Islama that educational institutions in COVID-19 hotspot areas, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura,
