Samsung reportedly working on a double-folding Smartphone

Samsung is allegedly using foldable technology all-in. It is noted that the South Korean tech giant is working on a double-folding phone to improve its range.

Nikkei Asia says that the phone will fold into three segments with two hinges and "as early as the end of this year" is announced. The phone will be a third option in the foldable line-up of Samsung and join the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, which are both expected to appear in new releases this year as well.

The report states that the design is still finished but Nikkei's sources say its screen could have a 16:9 or 18:9 aspect ratio that could make it easier for app manufacturers to design than the Z Fold screen with 25:9.

The limelight was previously seen on phones with different folds. Xiaomi's prototype of the folding phone folded at two points, but for its next folding design, the company has allegedly adopted a more folding Galaxy design. The foldable Huawei Mate X2 also uses a similar Samsung design.

Samsung may have introduced the new type of foldable to make the transition into form factor simpler for its power users. The company said that this year it could be skipping a new Galaxy Note, but it was not clear why.

The rationalization of their phone offers and the global chip shortage has been discussed, so this may be a test to see that notation users are ready for folding. By providing consumers with three foldable options, Samsung may be attempting to make one that works for them as likely as possible.

The release of the multipurpose phone will probably depend on whether Samsung can find out how to manage the chip shortages that have affected the whole industry. Folding phones have already become harder than standard smartphones, which could put the company's plans back if Samsung can't find the chips it needs. However, it is exciting to learn that Samsung is working on a third type of foldable, so it says that the form factor is still seen by Samsung as being the future.
