Faf du Plessis Weighs in on Selection Controversy of Azam Khan

Azam Khan, a fellow teammate, Faf du Plessis, lauded the former South African captain for an excellent shot and justified his selection for the England and the West Indies tour in Pakistan's T20I squad.

In the cricketing fraternity, concerns over the choice of Azam in the T20I team were raised, and many were concerned about the level of his fitness. However, Du Plessis was in defence and claimed, "You don't have a six-pack to succeed," and supported his squad selection.

"He (Azam) certainly has much strength, and he initiates the ball on. It'll be interesting to watch him see what he's doing in this last round of the event. In this last leg, he will be determined to do well," said Du Plessis.

In the Pakistan Super League, the 22-year-old Wicket-keeper Batsman showed his hot skills in the fifth and sixth editions of the event. According to sources, he was on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) radar during the previous year, although he was earlier not called on by the team due to his fitness.

Azam got his maiden call to the national side with a huge improvement in his fitness over the last 12 months. In the previous year, Azam claims to have lost around thirty kilos and wants to further reduce their weight.

Mohammad Wasim, Chief Selector of PCB, commended Azam to enhance his fitness and achieve the necessary fitness standards for international prestige. He stated Azam may be an asset to the national squad, and his power-hitting ability will be less useful.
