WhatsApp Will Use A New Method to Verify Accounts

You may have noticed that WhatsApp confirms your account by sending you a six-digit number through SMS when you sign up for a new WhatsApp account or restore your old WhatsApp account on a new phone. According to a recent source, the corporation is integrating flash calls as an additional means of account verification.

The platform is now testing this new function on Android, according to WABetainfo. Users will opt-in to get a call for verification instead of an SMS code once the function is available. They will take a call for a few moments and then hang up. The app will recognize the call and validate the account automatically.

Because iOS does not enable apps to read call history, the function will only be available on Android phones. According to WABetaInfo, the app will access your call log to compare the most recent entries, but it will not use the information for any other purpose.

In other news, Instagram is experimenting with sending verification codes over WhatsApp rather than SMS.

Other new features for WhatsApp include vanishing mode, multi-device support, and a view once option for media.
