'DoubleVPN' service used by hackers seized and shut down

The European police coordinating agency Europol stated on Wednesday that "DoubleVPN," a network used by criminals to cover up their identities in cyberattacks, was seized by police in Europe, the USA and Canada.

On Wednesday, the company's website warned police officers about the seizure of the domain along with information on DoubleVPN's customers.

Europol stated in a statement that customers had access to a VPN or virtual private network for $25 that let hackers protect their identity and location while they broke into worldwide networks.

"These are the most popular ways of disguising the location and identity of the Ransomware operators and the Phishing fraud-maker, both in Russian and English speaking underground Internet crime forums," it added.
