Helio G96 Chip Launched With Support for 120Hz Displays

Smartphone chips move quickly to the 5G support, but MediaTek's Helio line-up looks to be quite limited. With some notable upgrades, the Taiwanese company has upgraded its top CPUs in the Helio G range.

Nothing is altered from the previous CPU setup. The Helio G96 is equipped with two Cortex-A76 cores @ 2.05 GHz, and 6 A55 cores, the same as the Helio G95. The GPU is a Mali-G57 MC2, a degradation seen on the Helio G76 by the MC4 GPU. The game feature for reduced latency and improved FPS is also available for HyperEngine 2.

However, the G96 supports 1080p resolution 120Hz screens, up from 90Hz on previous versions. The maximum camera resolution has also been increased to 108MP, although 4 K 30 FPS is still used for video recording. More camera processing, such as 3DNR and MFNR noise reduction, is also included in the G96 hardWare.

As regard memory, LPDDRX4 RAM and UFS 2.2 storage are supported. The Cat 13 LTE modem is the same as before, but you get a quicker transfer rate and improved battery life with the new Bluetooth 5.2 support.

In the next months, the MediaTek Helio G96 chip will be introduced in smartphones.
