After the event was part of the UK Government's Event Research Program (ERP) the decision was taken to allow the full capacity crowd for the second ODI.

The ERP was designed by the UK government to work towards a safe removal of the relevant COVID-19 restrictions. The third ODI, scheduled for 13 July at Edgbaston, between Pakistan and England, maybe played before an 80 percent capacity crowd in accordance with the ERP.

The UK government recently eased the restrictions since in the last few months the COVID-19 situation in the country has improved. The crowd was allowed to attend sports events such as the England and New Zealand Test Cricket Series, Euro 2020, and Wimbledon.

The first cricket event to take place before crowds were the test series between England and New Zealand, which allowed only 20-25% of the total capacity.
