WhatsApp Tests Encrypted Cloud Backups

The contents of WhatsApp are protected by encoding end-to-end, so that nobody outside your conversations may violate privacy. But cloud backups from WhatsApp do not have such a security measure, thus search warrant authorities can readily access such data.

It is about to change when WhatsApp starts testing the latest version of the encrypted cloud backup. None other than WABetaInfo has found this update.

In version 2.21.15.5 for Android, WhatsApp cloud encryption was given out. When you choose this feature, we securely cloud your chat history and media. Your encrypted backups will be kept away for always, but if you lose your passcode or the 64-digit recovery key you won't get WhatsApp.

Sadly, the new feature must be carefully evaluated when the beta review process has reached its maximum and is now closed. At the time of writing, WhatsApp no longer allows beta testers.

With a future update, it may be available again, but most of us have to wait for a stable release.

Unfortunately, this is available only now on Android phones and the word for an iOS update is not out yet.
